To: The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana

Every day in Telangana, hard earned money meant for children's education, food, and rent is being poured into alcohol. Behind closed doors, countless families are silently enduring financial ruin, domestic violence, and broken homes. We can no longer measure our state's prosperity by liquor revenue while our families pay the true price.

Why This Matters:

We are not here to judge those who drink. We are here to stand up for the silent victims: the spouses, the children, and the communities bearing the brunt of alcohol dependency.

While the government views liquor as a major source of revenue—earning thousands of crores through excise policies—we must ask: What is the real cost to our society? 

Financial Ruin: A family's income is drained, leading to debt, poverty, and an inability to afford basic necessities like healthcare and housing.

The Silent Victims: Children grow up in unstable, sometimes terrifying environments, experiencing emotional distress and neglected education.

Community Harm: Alcohol abuse fuels road accidents, public disturbances, loss of productivity, and immense pressure on our healthcare and police systems.

Can We Afford the "Revenue"?

The revenue collected from liquor is instantly offset by the costs of addiction rehabilitation, domestic violence interventions, healthcare for alcohol-related illnesses, and lost economic productivity. A truly prosperous Telangana should be built on IT, agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism—not on the struggles of its most vulnerable families. Other states have shown that economic growth is possible alongside strict alcohol policies.

Our Demands:

We are not asking for an overnight, unplanned ban, which can lead to illicit trade. We are demanding a responsible, phased approach to an alcohol-free Telangana.

We urgently request the Government of Telangana to:

Form an Independent Task Force: Commission an immediate, unbiased study on the true social and economic impact of alcohol on Telangana families, comparing liquor revenue against the state's expenditure on alcohol-related harms.

Phase Down Availability: Implement a clear roadmap to gradually reduce the number of liquor shops and restrict operating hours across the state.

Invest in Rehabilitation: Divert a specific percentage of current liquor revenue to immediately build and staff free, high-quality de-addiction and counseling centers in every district.

Support the Victims: Establish dedicated support systems and helplines specifically for spouses and children affected by alcohol-related domestic violence and financial abuse.

Develop Alternative Revenue: Propose a 5 year economic plan to replace liquor revenue with sustainable investments in technology, tourism, and manufacturing.
