I am a resident of Bonney Lake, WA, and the current dress code policy in our schools is stifling my ability to express myself through what I wear. This issue goes beyond personal preference; it's about equality and individuality.
As of monday the 13th of may, students at mountain view middle school will be required to follow a dress code.

Fix It.

“Fix your shirt” is what her teacher says as she arrives to class. We are here to learn. There isn’t a problem with her shirt.

“adjust your shorts” “finger length” “put a jacket on”.

Is what students are told on a daily basis at schools worldwide. “The purpose of this policy is to ensure the classroom environment is free of distractions” is what our school is promoting for young girls. What is distracting about bodies? Everyone has one. You can wear shorts, but not too short. You can wear shirts but don’t expose your chest or stomach, it’s too revealing. You can wear jeans but not with holes, it’s to distracting. Your shoulders are distracting me from learning. You can wear dresses and skirts, but it must be past your knee.
