As a parent of a child attending Broadfield Academy, I face an unsettling reality every morning. Walking my son to school has become an exercise in fear and anxiety due to the dangerous traffic conditions around the school premises. Parents in cars are often in such haste that they disregard basic safety rules, even driving on paths where children and their parents walk. We find ourselves dodging speeding cars or those trying to squeeze into gaps just to drop off their children.

This is not just our personal story; it's a shared concern among many parents who send their kids to this school located in Adeyfield, Hemel Hempstead, UK. The safety of our children should never be compromised for anything else.

The solution we propose is simple yet effective - appointing a lollipop person outside Broadfield Academy during drop off and  pick-up times. A lollipop person can control the traffic flow around the school during busy times and ensure that all children can cross roads safely.

According to Road Safety GB, there was a 7% decrease in pedestrian casualties when schools had crossing patrols (lollipop persons). This shows how effective such measures can be at enhancing child safety near schools (source: Road Safety GB).

We urge the local authorities and school management of Broadfield Academy School to take immediate action on this matter. Our children's lives are at stake here; let's make sure they get safely from home to school and back again.
