Implement a $6.00 non ad valorem tax for NEW LOW COST Spay/Neuter clinics in Lee County

Implement a $6.00 non ad valorem tax for NEW LOW COST Spay/Neuter clinics in Lee County
The Issue
Although sometimes elusive, thousands of cats are roaming the streets of Lee County, Florida, and thousands more are being euthanized at our County Shelter. Whether you love cats or hate cats, we can all agree that this is a grave problem that needs addressing. Our community is in dire need of humane and effective strategies to control the population of stray and community cats and to support pet owners in managing their pets' health responsibly. One simple solution is the establishment of low-cost spay and neuter clinics across the county.
We propose the introduction of a $6.00 Non Ad Valorem Tax in Lee County specifically allocated to fund the operation of four low-cost spay and neuter clinics. These clinics would provide essential services all year round, offering Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs for community cats, and scheduled spaying and neutering for dogs and owned cats. This initiative promises to dramatically reduce the number of stray and unwanted animals, alleviate the overcrowding in shelters, and ultimately decrease the rate of euthanasia.
Implementing this tax would lead to a healthier and safer environment for both animals and residents. According to data from the Humane Society of the United States, TNR programs have proven successful in reducing the population of stray cats without resorting to lethal methods. Furthermore, similar programs across the country have demonstrated substantial savings in taxpayer dollars by reducing the costs associated with animal control services.
We envision a Lee County where animals are treated with compassion and where pet owners have access to affordable services to care for their animals. This proposed tax would not only serve our animal residents but also unify our community around a meaningful cause, making a significant impact on public health and safety.
We need your support to convince the local government of the pressing need for these clinics. By signing this petition, you join us in urging the Lee County Commissioners to approve and allocate this imperative funding through a $6.00 Non Ad Valorem Tax. Let's work together to ensure a more humane future for our county's animals and a more harmonious community. Please sign and share this petition.
