Implement a 30mph Speed Limit in Sanham Green & Hornhill
The Issue
Sanham Green & Hornhill are within the North Wessex National Landscape on the edge of Hungerford. Populated by a diverse community of residents and enjoyed by many visitors on a daily basis including walkers, dog walkers, runners, cyclists, and nature enthusiasts. Currently, the absence of an effective speed limit poses a dangerous risk to residents and visitors. The dangers of higher speed limits are well documented.
There are 2 bridleways and 3 public footpaths that are connected by the road, enabling a high volume of walkers and ramblers to enjoy our beautiful area,
According to the World Health Organization, a 5% cut in average speed can result in a 30% reduction in fatal road traffic accidents. By implementing a 30mph speed limit in Sanham Green and Hornhill we can substantially reduce these risks and make our community safer for residents and everyone who enjoys our beautiful area.
In the past 3 years, property has been damaged by motorists and accidents have happened as cars speed down the road, around the multiple bends, only to not be able to pass ongoing cars and break in time. Residents and walkers have experienced motorists not slowing down as they walk on the road on an increasingly frequent basis which is detrimental to their safety.
We call on the relevant authorities to take action to address this issue. Please, sign this petition to ensure the safety of our local community.
