As a nurse working at the VA hospital, I have seen firsthand the toll that long and unpredictable work hours can take on our bedside nurses. Many of my colleagues are struggling with fatigue, burnout, and a lack of work-life balance. This not only affects their own well-being but also impacts the quality of patient care they are able to provide.

That's why I am calling on the VA hospital to implement a 72/80 alternative work schedule for bedside nurses. This schedule would allow nurses to work 72 hours in two weeks instead of the traditional 80 hours, giving them more time off between shifts and reducing their overall workload.

By implementing this schedule at our VA hospital, we can improve both nurse recruitment and retention while also enhancing patient care. It's time for us to prioritize the well-being of our frontline healthcare workers who do so much for our veterans every day.
