In the heart of our Clinton community, we have endured one of the most challenging years on record. The relentless fires have not only devastated our homes and landscapes but have also severely impacted the delicate balance of our local ecosystems. Our wildlife, which is crucial to the health of our natural environment, is struggling to find sanctuary and recuperate amidst these unprecedented conditions.

We, as a community, stand together to urgently request the Ministry of Forests and BC Conservation to impose  1-year temporary hunting restrictions on all hunting activities in areas 3-31 and 3-30 that were affected by the 2026 Wild Fires.  And a 2 year restriction on all vehicle and atv. This measure is not only critical for protecting already stressed wildlife populations but also pivotal in allowing them the necessary time to heal and repopulate as they prepare for the harsh winter months ahead.

While we understand the cultural and subsistence importance of hunting to many, we must ask ourselves: when do we prioritize giving our wildlife the chance to restore? The aftermath of the fires has left our deer, bears, birds, and other wildlife species vulnerable, with many struggling to find safe forage and habitat amidst the charred remains of their ecosystems.

Scientific studies highlight how post-fire environments demand a recovery period to regain their biodiversity. A pause in hunting will help reestablish a sustainable environment for our wildlife, fostering a more resilient ecosystem that can once again thrive. This action not only aligns with environmental mindfulness but also stands as a testament to our commitment to preserving the natural splendor of British Columbia for future generations.
