Greetings, good humans. I want to thank you for your support. I’m not so unwise that I think this petition is going to single-handedly change SCOTUS, but if we get it out there to more people, it may just gain momentum enough for news stations to pick it up and send a message. Please, please share the link with anyone and everyone. We need all the allies we can get. I’ve signed every single women’s rights petition I could find here on Change.org, and I encourage you to do the same.
I’m in Virginia, and we swore in a brand new, uber-conservative, Republican governor in January who is planning an assault on abortion rights in Virginia come January when the general assembly is back in session. Glenn Youngkin said, “anything to preserve life”. Apparently every life, except for the life of a pregnant woman. Uterus owners are under attack, and only 4 states and DC have permanent protections in place for abortion. These people are not pro-life, they’re pro-birth. There’s a difference.
If these lawmakers were actually concerned with life, they’d put their money where their mouth is, and they haven’t, and they won’t. We can’t feed the babies we have due to the formula shortage; I still have friends begging for formula to feed their babies. The foster care system is completely overwhelmed, and none of these people are adopting or even trying to care for the millions of kids in it. The GOP voted AGAINST funding to help the formula shortage, but they’re trying to turn uterus owners into forced birthers. That’s not pro-life, it’s pro-birth. We are not baby factories, we are human beings, and deserve to be treated as such. Remember, abortion will always be available to the wealthy 1%, like the people making these awful laws.
Texas had one of its first losses due to her inability to get a scheduled abortion. Her fetus wasn’t viable and was making her sick, having constant seizures in the womb. This young woman took her own life after Greg Abbott’s extremist abortion bans went into effect and she was no longer able to get her scheduled, life-saving procedure. I found this story on Twitter, a woman was mourning the loss of her friend in Dallas & told us her story. I haven’t been able to verify this story (yet), but as soon as I do, I’ll post an update. It is critical to me that I speak in facts, unlike the GOP extremists. I wept, because I know that this will happen many times over again if we don’t fight for change. This is not the time for complacency, it’s time for a cultural revolution.
Idaho, Oklahoma, and Texas (so far, there will be more) have put in place laws that allow BOUNTIES to be taken out against uterus owners seeking abortion services, and ANY DOCTOR who performs one or helps a patient how to get out of the state for healthcare. Texas and Arkansas also want to put STATE BORDER CHECKPOINTS in place to prevent women from seeking healthcare in other states (source: The Washington Post). My mind can’t even wrap itself around this. SCOTUS and the extremist lawmakers helping to pass these inhumane, discriminatory laws already have blood on their hands, and there will be more.
They may not get away with the checkpoints (see: constitutional amendment 14, the right to interstate travel & commerce), but the fact that they’re even trying is terrifying enough. They are trampling the constitutional rights of half of America. These things are going to keep happening if we don’t show up in November and vote against those supporting the abolition of human rights for uterus owners, and get petitions like this out there to apply pressure.
Uterus owners have had to fight for the right to vote, to choose a spouse, for agency over our own bodies FOREVER. We’ve been mistrusted with OUR OWN BODIES for far too long, and it’s time to make a stand. Do you think this would be happening if it were men’s bodies on the chopping block? Not in a million years, because most of the awful people doing this are, indeed, men. There are women involved, I’m not blaming one gender, but the vast majority are men. That’s just a fact.
Abortion is a MEDICAL procedure; it should be between a patient and their doctor, not in the legislature. A MEDICAL DOCTOR performs abortions; an OBGYN. The OBGYN’s in America have been begging lawmakers not to do this, because, make no mistake, there will be more death and destruction. These are lawyers and business people legislating our bodies based on their RELIGIOUS BELIEFS. Religion has NO PLACE in government. Period. My dog has more protections than I do. My young son has more rights than I do as his mother because of my sex, and there are millions more like me. Let that marinade.
We need to PUSH HARD on our Senate to CODIFY ROE. Mitch McConnell and his extremist cronies have been constipating progression for far too long, and it’s time to send people like them a message. WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT. WE WILL NOT BE FORCED BIRTHERS. WE ARE UTERUS OWNERS AND HUMAN BEINGS AND WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS!
McConnell pushed Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney-Barrett (one of the “justices” responsible for the overturn) less than 1 month before the end of his term, but he blocked Barack Obama from nominating a justice 3 months before the end of his term. People that are craven and corrupt like Mitch McConnell have got to go, and the only way is to vote them out. He is a major factor in the destruction of our human rights, along with Trump, and it’s time to stop them.
49 years of precedent was wiped out by 5 people. 5 “justices” (I use the term loosely because there is no justice in this) took the rights of over 72 million women of reproductive age in the wealthiest, most developed country on Earth. 5 justices committed PERJURY by stating they would uphold Roe in their Senate confirmation hearings. If any of us committed blatant perjury, we’d get handed jail time. If we don’t fight, the far right will continue to eat our liberties for lunch. They want this country to become Gilead (see: The Handmaid’s Tale). SCOTUS has been bought and paid for by the Koch brothers and religious lobbies, and the time for revolution has come.
I am not a professional writer or activist; I’m a military wife, a mom, a woman just trying to make my way in the world, and doing my best to raise a decent young man to put into the world. I am also a survivor of sexual assault, and having agency over my body after that brutal assault is what allowed me to heal and be here today to raise my son and support my husband through his Navy career. I wouldn’t be here today if I hadn’t had the HUMAN RIGHT to choose after those horrific events. I’m not the only one, not by a long shot.
This petition is a symbol of the way millions of us feel, and we MUST tell our congresspeople that THEY MUST IMPEACH the 5 “justices”, 2 of whom have credible sexual misconduct allegations against them (Brett Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas), THIS CANNOT STAND. Having these monsters take HUMAN RIGHTS away from millions of uterus owners adds insult to injury. Push this petition out to everyone you know, and others like it. Please help us fight for our very lives, the lives of our daughters, sisters, mothers, aunts, and every single uterus owner, present and future, in this nation.
They’re coming for contraception, same-sex marriage, trans rights, protections for LGBTQ+ kids in schools, and so many more important laws that protect ALL AMERICANS. We cannot selectively protect the few; we have to protect the many. If lawmakers won’t do it, we have to fight back. I want to be clear, I’m not condoning any type of violence; we cannot sink to their level. We have to fight smart, at the ballot box, with petitions, and protests. More than anything, these people don’t want to lose their power, and votes are what give and take that power. This affects EVERYONE. The events of the last week are the most un-American I’ve ever witnessed in almost 40 years on this Earth. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness was decried for ALL, not just men. We MUST CODIFY ROE and IMPEACH THE SCOTUS JUSTICES FOR PERJURY! Let’s fight together for REAL justice and stop greed machines from imposing their extremist agenda on all of us!
