The Issue

The faculty and staff of MacArthur High School are calling for the immediate termination, removal, or demotion of Principal Victoria Youngblood-Baldwin, commonly referred to as “YBB.” We believe it is time for the Irving Independent School District and its Central Office Administration to seriously evaluate the current leadership at MacArthur High School and take decisive action regarding Principal Youngblood-Baldwin’s position as campus leader.

Over the past two years, Principal Youngblood-Baldwin’s leadership style, lack of administrative preparedness, and insufficient experience managing a high school of MacArthur’s size, population, and demographic diversity have become significant liabilities to the campus. Many staff members believe that her leadership has negatively impacted morale, professional collaboration, and the overall effectiveness of campus operations.

Concerns regarding the treatment of minority leaders and staff members have become increasingly widespread and difficult to ignore. Numerous employees have expressed frustration with what they perceive as a lack of respect, support, and equitable treatment under the current administration. According to staff feedback, more than 80% of employees report dissatisfaction with Principal Youngblood-Baldwin’s leadership, vision, and direction for the campus. Of those individuals, many have either chosen to retire, seek employment elsewhere, or leave the field of education altogether.

Staff members have also reported a persistent lack of clear goals, consistency, and organizational direction. Expectations and priorities are perceived to change frequently, creating confusion and instability among faculty and staff. Many believe this demonstrates a lack of preparedness for the responsibilities associated with leading a large urban high school.

In addition, concerns have been raised regarding a leadership approach that many employees describe as retaliatory and excessively focused on micromanagement. Staff members report that Principal Youngblood-Baldwin frequently assumes responsibilities traditionally delegated to trained professionals and department leaders, including duties associated with campus administration, counseling, athletics, testing coordination, special education, operations, and other specialized roles.

This leadership approach has reportedly limited professional autonomy and diminished staff confidence in campus leadership. Many educators believe that effective leadership requires collaboration, trust in experienced personnel, and openness to constructive feedback. Unfortunately, numerous staff members feel their professional expertise and recommendations are routinely disregarded, resulting in declining morale and a loss of confidence in the current administration.

Faculty and staff further believe that this style of leadership is not conducive to the operational demands of a large high school campus, where collaboration, delegation, and strategic leadership are essential to student and staff success.

In conclusion, many members of the MacArthur High School faculty and staff believe that immediate intervention by district leadership is necessary. Without meaningful administrative change, there is growing concern that employee morale, campus culture, staff retention, and overall academic performance may continue to decline. Staff members are urging the district to take appropriate action to restore confidence, stability, and effective leadership at MacArthur High School.
