On Wednesday March 4th, a brutal, reckless, and gang-style attack occurred involving Senator Tim Sheehy (MT-R) and Brian McGinnis, United States Marine Corp veteran. This attack resulted in McGinnis suffering a horrific bone-breaking injury at the hands of Sheehy and Capitol police. Video footage shows during a public event, Sen. Sheehy along with Capitol police, assaulted McGinnis, who was present to exercise his 1st amendment rights (Tim Sheehy is also a veteran who swore to uphold the constitution, to include the 1st amendment). McGinnis is also a Green Party candidate running for Senate in N.C. 

This incident is not just a personal affront to those who serve but an egregious example of the mistreatment of veterans and trampling of the Constitution. Veterans, like many of my family members and yours, have sacrificed so much for our freedom and safety. It is unthinkable and intolerable that a public official, elected to uphold the rights of individuals, chooses instead to attack and silence those who have served and continue to serve valiantly.

Moreover, the gravity of this situation calls for more than a mere passing apology or public relations statement. This is a matter involving ethics, professional conduct, and safety within the highest levels of our government. Without an immediate removal and criminal investigation, we risk allowing such behavior to go unchecked, potentially endangering the very foundation of respect and integrity within our political system.

The Senate Ethics Committee is responsible for ensuring that senators adhere to high standards of behavior and accountability. This committee has the power to launch an investigation into the actions of Sen. Sheehy, ensuring that if these allegations are true as confirmed by video evidence, appropriate action is taken to uphold justice, demonstrate support for veterans, and reaffirm the constitution. We demand a full investigation, removal from office, and charges brought against Sen. Tim Sheehy.
