Immediate Action on Break-Ins and Public Safety in the CBN Area

Immediate Action on Break-Ins and Public Safety in the CBN Area
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and supporters, are calling for immediate action to address ongoing break-ins and public safety concerns across the communities from Victoria to Lower Island Cove.
Whereas:
- Our region (approximately 4,051 residents) has experienced ongoing break-ins since July, creating fear, stress, and loss of confidence in public safety.
Many residents feel especially vulnerable, including seniors, families, and people living alone. - Community concern is heightened by repeated incidents and the perception that consequences and enforcement are not stopping repeat offending.
- We respect the independence of the courts and the Charter, and we are asking for accountability, coordination, and effective use of the tools already available — and improvements where they are not working.
Therefore, we respectfully request that The Honourable Tony Wakeham, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, MHA Riley Balsam and MP Jonathan Rowe:
- Lead an urgent, coordinated public safety response with the appropriate agencies (policing, Justice, victim services, and municipal/community leadership), including a clear point of contact and regular public updates.
- Increase visible prevention and enforcement in affected communities, especially during high-risk times.
- Ensure strong follow-through on release conditions and breaches, and improve communication so residents know how to report and document incidents.
- Advocate for system improvements that reduce repeat break-ins and improve public safety outcomes, including a review of how the current bail framework is being applied and whether changes are needed.
This petition comes from real fear and real exhaustion in our communities. We’re asking leaders to treat this with urgency, support victims, and take action that prevents more people from being harmed. We are not calling for protests or confrontation — we’re asking for safety, accountability, and a path forward.
