Greetings all!
I have some wonderful new information for you! I was called yesterday by an official at the ILCC, and informed me they were impressed with our letter and the number of signatures. While they aren't able to suspend the liquor license directly, they are launching an investigation based on our request. They'll be looking for current and past "safety compliance within the BASSETT guidelines." The results of their investigation will be directly handed over to the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Consumer Protection, the agency that is directly in control of the liquor license held by El Hefe.
Additionally, I've been contacted by the office of Alderman Reilly, and we had an incredible conversation today. Mr. Reilly has read our petition, and is a supporter of our movement. His office has been in contact with the mayor's office regarding this issue, and they just called me today and encouraged me to hand the petition and signatures over to the mayor, who has been made aware of our petition. The alderman is planning on requesting that El Hefe be closed due to public safety concerns, but must wait until CPD officially wraps their ongoing investigation before he is able to participate in any disciplinary actions. The conversation we had today was very encouraging! I've been asked to keep them informed of any developments, to which they'll extend the same courtesy to us!!
Your voices are being heard!! Thanks everybody for ALL your support in this matter! These things can't happen overnight, but we ARE making progress!
Jesse
