Just checking in with everyone who’s signed and shared Christian Reichert’s petition. I’m needing help with getting more signatures. We are at a standstill. Illinois passed HB2129 which allows a states attorney to resentence someone they feel was sentenced excessively. Christian was definitely given a harsh sentence of 23 years for the trafficking of marijuana in 2016 and 15 years for the marijuana conspiracy charge that he had very little to do with and in the transcripts it proves he did not sell or distribute anything. The states own witnesses that explained their role in the conspiracy on the stand for the prosecution told the court they did not know Christian and had never seen him with marijuana in any way. Christian made a mistake by doing a childhood friend a few favors. I understand punishment must be enforced when a young person makes a mistake but this sentence was overkill by the former states attorney Mike Carr who lost his election to Joe Cervantez in Nov 2020. Carr asked the judge to give my son 40 years because he would not plead guilty in a county he did nothing in so he was punished for not accepting a plea deal and using his constitutional right to a trial. You should not have decades added to your sentence because you exercise your rights. Please help me get this young man out of prison with no priors or violent charges. He has been incarcerated over 5 years now. In my opinion he has learned his lesson and is not a threat to society in any way. Marijuana is legal in Illinois and the state is making millions and millions and I can walk in a dispensary and buy marijuana. Enough is enough, this could happen to so many young men and women and their families. I’m asking everyone to please help me get more signatures and let’s get this young man home with his family and back to work. Please sign and share if you haven’t or share with everyone you know if you have signed it. The new states attorney of Jackson County has the power to change this sentence and let’s hope he sees the injustice that was done to him by the former controversial states attorney Mike Carr and does what so many of us feel needs to be done. I’m on a mission to help as many young men and women in prison for marijuana as I possibly can. Email me if you know someone in a similar situation over marijuana. Thank you all again so much. Sincerely, Tina Reichert
