I’m declaring victory for my son and am so grateful for all of you that have signed his petition and been so supportive. We are so grateful to you all. I will try to keep some of you posted. I’m praying 2022 is his year to be released for this excessive sentence being a 1st time offender with no violent charges and received a total of 38 years to run concurrently, thank God. Had the former states attorney in Jackson County IL gotten his way my son would be doing 40 years instead of 23 years. Thankful the Judge did not agree with the states attorney but still gave him a very harsh sentence considering he had no priors or violent charges but gave repeat offenders probation. My son regrets and is remorseful for the small role he had in the marijuana conspiracy and for the few favors he did for a childhood friend for the 6 and a half weeks he was home in Illinois for family reasons and was to return to his job for a national company and his life has now changed forever due to the poor decision he made for a long time friend. He has learned his listen after almost 6 years incarcerated. Marijuana is legal in IL and has already made over a billion dollars. Christian has been a model Inmate and has worked and gone to school and has done everything the state has required. I personally feel 6 years is enough for a 1st time non violent offense. Some of these draconian laws need changed now that many states have and are legalizing marijuana. Thank you all again and I hope and pray no family has a young adult child that ever falls into or makes a mistake like this. It’s a family’s worst nightmare. I’m thankful to Governor Pritzker for the changes he is making regarding these marijuana laws and sentences. He is the only Governor Illinois that has cared enough to make these changes and has released several now and has helped get new laws passed including allowing a states attorney to petition to resentence someone he feels was sentenced to harshly in certain situations. God Bless you all and Happy Holidays and again thank you ALL that signed Christian Reichert’s petition.
