Illegal fishing

The issue

I have realized that illegal unreported and unregulated fishing is a big problem in our lives as each year 11-26 million tons of fish are caught illegally and that damages ecosystems and will lose us money.

Well if we don't do anything about illegal unreported and unregulated fishing, whole ecosystems will collapse. Food security and regional stability are at risk. The current estimates say that the global losses of illegal fishing add up to about $36.4 billion each year! Unregulated fishing also occurs far out to sea and so does not break national laws but it affects marine life. Some anglers catch banned marine life so they can keep it. Others even with a licence over fish. Doing this doesn't help marine ecosystems as it only speeds up the process of decreasing population. It also contributes greatly to global overfishing. Controlling how much we fish will be harder as we can't accurately estimate to amount of fish that are caught illegally.

If this keeps happening not only will it impact ecosystems, it will also impact people who actually have licenses to fish. So we have a idea that will help with this. We plan to design and make mini submarines that will search for ships that are out at sea fishing. When it spots the ship it will indentify the ship and if the ship is not legally allowed to fish it will immediately send out a signal to the police so that they can catch the ship.

By doing this not only will it reduce the amount of illegal fishing but will also not need human operation. This is a cheap way to stop illegal fishing and will not need patrols sent out 24 hours every day.

So by supporting our cause and signing the petition you can make the world a better place.
