Re-instate Idaho State Correctional Center Close Custody Visits
The Issue
After 6 weeks of uncertainty and no visits this was announced on 11/19/2018
Announcement By Warden Jay Christensen, ISCC
In light of recent incidents in the Idaho State Correctional Center visiting room, we have evaluated all visitation options for close custody offenders. With the Holidays approaching we believe it is best to restore some form of visitation while ensuring the safety of all visitors, staff and offenders alike. ISCC plans to begin offering video visitation during the week of 11/19/2018 for close custody. The visitation times will be coordinated between G-blk staff and Visiting staff to align with the current G-blk dayroom schedules. Those offenders wishing to receive a video visit will communicate their visiting request with unit staff by use of a concern form and once it has been confirmed they will inform their visitors of the time frames to match their dayroom schedule.
This is not only a punishment to the inmates but also to us civilians, we are innocent as it is but we will have to suffer even more than what we have too. I am majorly concerned for the sake of our children, who will not have physical contact with their parent for who knows how long! It eventually take its toll on a lot of inmates. It also raises the questions, how is this fair?! What incentives do they have for good behavior? How are they rewarding good behavior? And what are the emotional effects of this?!
I am wanting to get as many signatures as possible to present to The Warden on my next visit. I am from the UK and have to travel 5000 miles to visit my husband, our visits are rare as it is and we treasure them dearly, as do so many others. But now we will be restricted to a screen, my stepson who is very young needs the physical contact with his daddy to build a relationship. we all need that physical touch to know that we're still human! PLEASE SIGN!
'Visitation is so important to maintaining a prisoner’s faith. So important. I can’t believe they would simply take that away, the impact is going to be so real.' (Sister Alison McCrary is an attorney and executive director for the National Police Accountability Project)
'We should be moving toward more human contact and people connecting with other people, not less. When we move away from this we are de-humanizing even more!' (Norris Henderson spent nearly 28 years in prison for murder in Louisiana)
Please sign this petition to stop this becoming a permanent change to our lives!
I will post daily statistics and facts about visitations. Also I will update as regularly as possible! ! !
