ICE Out of Minnesota! Make Minnesota a Sanctuary State!

The Issue

The People of Minnesota Demand a Sanctuary State NOW!

Unidentified federal agents and bounty hunters continue to kidnap our neighbors and sow terror across the state — and we now face heightened danger from local agencies cooperating with ICE. WE SAY NO MORE!

Communities across Minnesota are demanding legislation to make us a sanctuary state, and we stand firmly in support of these efforts — but WE CANNOT WAIT.

We need protections now, and Governor Walz has the power to make it happen. Walz can protect Minnesota immigrants through an executive order, following the lead of governors in Massachusetts and New Jersey. We are tired of leaders who refuse to take action.

We demand that the Governor:

  1. Ban 287(g) agreements and all collaboration between local agencies and ICE
  2. Ban immigration enforcement agencies in and around schools, hospitals, and houses of worship
  3. Ban immigration enforcement agencies from using state property
  4. Ban face coverings and require visible ID for all law enforcement officers
  5. Defend anti-ICE protestors against political repression
  6. Provide justice for victims of ICE terror
  7. Implement a statewide eviction moratorium

We expect every single gubernatorial candidate to endorse these demands, and they will be hearing from us until they do. ICE out of Minnesota — no compromises!

Detailed demands:

  1. Ban collaboration between local agencies and ICE: Ban all 287(g) agreements; prohibit ICE offices at county jails; ban county jails from sharing information or coordinating with ICE; mandate punitive measures for any state, county or local officer who cooperates with ICE; and create whistleblower protections for state and local officers who notify the state of violations.
  2. Protect sensitive locations: Ban immigration enforcement in and around schools, hospitals, and houses of worship.
  3. Keep ICE off state property: Prohibit federal immigration enforcement agents from using state facilities, and other property owned or controlled by the state, for staging, for processing, or as an operations base.
  4. Ban secret police: Prohibit any law enforcement agent from obscuring their identity through face coverings and require all agents to clearly display their agency affiliation.
  5. Defend protestors against political repression: Demand that state and federal prosecutors drop ALL charges against ICE observers and anti-ICE protesters.
  6. Provide justice for victims of ICE terror: Create a legal fund for detained immigrants to access attorneys; provide rental assistance to immigrants who sheltered in place during Operation Metro Surge; and arrest and prosecute ALL killer agents, EVERY agent who entered private property without a warrant, and EVERY agent who brutalized protesters.
  7. Implement a statewide eviction moratorium
