ICE Out Democracy In

ICE Out Democracy In
The Issue
This petition addresses concerns regarding oversight, transparency, and institutional preparedness in response to federal immigration enforcement actions that affect our campus community. Signatories are calling for clear reaffirmation of sanctuary protections, expanded access to rights education and rapid response resources for students, staff, and families, and the establishment of a structured student advisory mechanism to engage questions of civil liberties and federal presence in public spaces. The petition further urges elected officials to support independent review and meaningful congressional oversight of federal agencies, including DHS, ICE, and CBP, particularly in cases involving alleged excessive force or serious harm. The purpose of this petition is not to debate immigration policy broadly, but to advocate for accountability, transparency, and responsible governance when federal enforcement authority impacts our community.
Our demands are as follows:
- Statement from our elected officials reaffirming condemnation of ICE actions.
- Expanding information and education in our classrooms on protections, legal responses, and rapid response support for our students, staff, and families.
- Establishment of a task force of students whose purpose is to confront immigration enforcement policy, defense of civil liberties, and discuss the role of federal agencies on our public spaces hand in hand with Rapid Response for the campus.
- Push for our elected officials to support oversight, halting DHS (CBP, ICE) Operations in our streets, and initiating an investigation into acts of unnatural death at the hands of ICE agents and other DHS Agencies on U.S. soil through the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Federal Law Enforcement.
