I Shouldn't Have to Choose Between My Career and My Health

I Shouldn't Have to Choose Between My Career and My Health
The Issue
To: Corporate Leaders, HR Departments, and Policy Makers
The Story:
I'm a first-generation immigrant who came to the U.S. with $11,431 and a dream.
I worked as a CMO for a decade and then built an award-winning marketing agency—and nearly died in the process.
At 36,000 feet, flying home from my client Madonna's event, my body started shaking uncontrollably. I pulled out a cocktail napkin and wrote:
Work | Money | Love | Health | Play
Work: 100%
Money: 50%
Love: 25%
Health: 25%
Play: 0%
That napkin saved my life.
Over the next decade, I:
- Left the toxic hustle mindset behind and became a certified ICF and Human Potential Coach
- Pivoted my career to start the Unhustle Movement
- Built a life I actually wanted to live
- Interviewed 300+ high performers, CEOs, founders, rebels, and beach bums
- Created the Unhustle Method (backed by neuroscience + ancient wisdom
- Spoke about the Unhustle message on the World Economic Forum and Wisdom2.0.
- Wrote the book about the Unhustle Method
I'm not alone.
- Women in leadership have long experienced more burnout than other employees, and this year their burnout is higher than ever. (Women in the Workplace 2025)
- Six in 10 senior-level women report frequently feeling burned out. (Women in the Workplace 2025)
- 80% of employees battle productivity anxiety (Stress.org)
- 68% of us aren't getting enough rest (The Rest Test)
We're not lazy. We're not weak. We're working in a system designed to extract value until we collapse.
And it's costing everyone: $300 billion in productivity losses and $1.9 trillion in disengagement annually (Gallup).
The Reality:
Current workplace culture demands we:
- Answer emails at 10 PM
- Skip lunch to "stay on top of things"
- Normalize exhaustion as "just part of the job"
- Sacrifice sleep, health, and relationships for "success"
This isn't ambition. It's abuse.
Our Demand:
We're calling on companies to adopt The Unhustle Standard—five policies that protect employee wellbeing without sacrificing performance:
- No After-Hours Communication – Emails/Slack after 6 PM are optional, not expected
- 4-Day Work Week Trials – Test what actually improves productivity
- Real Unlimited PTO – Track usage and incentivize rest (minimum 20 days)
- Mental Health Days – Separate from sick leave, stigma-free
- Outcome-Based Performance – Measure results, not hours logged
Why This Works:
Companies prioritizing rest see:
- 21% higher profitability (Gallup)
- Better talent retention (McKinsey)
- Healthier, more engaged teams (Harvard Business Review)
Rested employees perform better. Period.
What Your Signature Does:
At 100,000 signatures, we will:
- Deliver this petition to Fortune 500 CEOs
- Launch a public accountability campaign
- Create a "Unhustle Employer" certification
Sign if you're tired of being tired.
Sign if you believe work should fit into life—not the other way around.
Sign if you refuse to break yourself for a system that doesn't care.
