Imagine not being able to sleep at normal times. This can lead to sleep deprivation. This is a reality for many teenagers going into high school in the United States. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center for Disease Control have come to the conclusion that something called the circadian clock is to blame. The circadian clock, or our biological sleep rhythm, shifts with puberty so adolescents become sleepy later at night and need to sleep later in the morning. That's why we as a group here in 8th grade at Oak Valley Middle School plan on advocating for a change in our community. High school starting times should be later (recommended time is no earlier than 8:30am according to AAP) for better health, safety and academic success... To update everyone we have been making progress. We had a story on channel 7 news, an interview on channel 4 news, as well as did hid one of our major goals of being able to present to the Huron Valley Board of Education.
