Humanitarian visas for whānau of Palestinian New Zealanders

The issue

We urge the New Zealand Government to urgently establish a Special Humanitarian Visa to allow family members of New Zealand Palestinians, affected by the war in Gaza, to seek refuge in Aotearoa.

New Zealand Palestinians are desperate to bring their family members from Gaza to the safe haven of New Zealand.

Conditions in Palestine are dire, and while travel is difficult, having an appropriate visa makes a difference.

Canada has allocated 5000 special visas to the people of Gaza, and Australia has allocated over 2800. Now it’s New Zealand’s turn to step up.

Our country has a long and proud history of doing the right thing and standing up to help those in need. This is one of those times.

New Zealand created special visas for the whānau of Afghanistan and Ukraine kiwis. We ask for families of Palestinian New Zealanders to be given the same opportunity.

The time to act is now.

This petition was started in Ōtepoti Dunedin by concerned residents of all political stripes, and it will be presented to the Minister of Immigration.

We hope people from across the country will join us to ask the government to provide a safe haven for the whānau of our Palestinian community.
