The Issue

Moloka‘i’s cats cannot wait.

Our island has no county funded cat animal control program, no resident veterinarian, no humane euthanasia, and no animal shelter. When a cat is abandoned, injured, or in urgent need, volunteer run Rescue Kitties of Hawai‘i steps in, but volunteers and private donors should not have to carry this islandwide responsibility alone.

We’re asking the Maui County Council and Mayor to provide $200,000 in recurring annual funding for humane cat welfare services on Moloka‘i. RKH already raises approximately $200,000 each year. A matching county investment could create an estimated $400,000 annual partnership between public and private funding for rescue, veterinary care, sterilization, emergency response, education, and humane population management.
