The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), adopted by the United Nations in 1948, is a milestone document that sets out fundamental human rights to be universally protected. However, its language lacks gender inclusivity, predominantly using pronouns such as 'he', 'him', and 'his'. This petition calls on the United Nations to revise this critical document to reflect our mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces, nanas and aunties. The protection of women has never been more crucial when evidence from the World Health Organisation reports that one out of three women experience violence and sexual violence from an intimate partner. Our global commitment towards human rights must recognise this significant population.

By revising the language in the UDHR, we can ensure that all women feel safe and protected and have the same human rights we all have. It's time for our universal human rights charter to be truly universal.
