Cengiz Holding is planning to open a gold mine in Cerattepe, Artvin. This mine will destroy one of the world’s most precious natural forest and it will danger life in Artvin. According to scientific reports, after the mine people of Artvin will have to move as all the water resources and the land will be poisoned. People of Artvin have been resisting the mine. For the last two days they shut down all the stores and schools. Police and army brought in extra forces from six other cities and they are attacking protestors with teargas and plastic bullets. Due to its proximity this is of course a danger for Batumi, for Georgia and for the ecology of Caucasus
