Three Reasons to Sign

1. Every 107 seconds, a sexual assault occurs in the United States, according to the Justice Department. 2. 68 percent of sexual assaults go unreported by victims who are afraid they will be disbelieved or mocked. Attitudes like those in the article we're protesting contribute to a sense of embarrassment, particularly among men, about seeking help when they are sexually abused. 3. 73 percent of all sexual assaults are perpetrated by somebody the victim knows, including intimate partners. While the Huffington Post may think this is a great setup for comedy, the 20 people who were just assaulted in the last ten minutes it took me to write this and you to read it do not deserve to be treated with that kind of disrespect. You can help detoxify the atmosphere that survivors of sexual assault live in by sending a message to the Huffington Post, and the rest of the world, that trivializing sexual assault and partner abuse is not a fit subject for humor, regardless of the victim's gender, orientation or identity.
