Greetings to all.
Once again, thank you so much for your support. Without you, this petition would not have been able to get this far. With almost 10000 petition supporters and the FB group "Does Bravecto Kill Dogs?" closing in on 30000 members, I am becoming more and more positive about being able to get this drug removed from the market soon.
I would like to once again call on everyone to share this petition as widely as possible on all social platforms. More and more dogs are dying after taking Bravecto, and I would really like to see an end to the drug soon.
There have yet again been several cases of dogs dying recently after taking the drug. One such very sad case is the case of Frodo. I copy and paste his story directly from a Facebook post by his owner, Ushanta Naidoo from South Africa:
Frodo’s story
“Dear All.
Today my Frodo crossed the Rainbow Bridge after a 3 week long battle with GME- An ideopathic autoimmune meningitis. Idiopathic meaning sudden and non-explained onset. This post is for everyone as a warning to go to your vet.
In late August I gave Frodo Bravecto, I had been using it for about a year. A week or so later he had developed a red rash on his chest and belly. Our vet said it might be seasonal and advised us to use baby cream on the rash in the interim.
A week after that Frodo cried out in pain when I tried to carry him and again we rushed him to the vet who said they suspected it to be his back as he's after dachshund. They prescribed an anti-inflammatory for him. The anti-inflammatory drugs worked for his pain and we went back to life thinking we need to be careful with his injury.
The rash however did not go away and by October our local vet prescribed mild prednisone for the rash which cured it. 3 days after the prednisone course was complete I came home to find Frodo too quiet- the same as when he had hurt his back. By the time my husband came home Frodo had started pacing on autopilot and I started to panic. We didn't have a 24 hour hospital where we lived and so had to keep vigil over him the entire night while he walked around in circles.
The following morning we rushed him to the city to a veterinary hospital where he spent a week and was finally diagnosed with GME after a spinal fluid tap. He was treated and made it a week further before he relapsed and was admitted once more this past Saturday.
He lost his battle today. I can't prove anything but I wanted to share my story in the hope that it saves someone else's dog. I've read posts today showing rashes and Vets explaining it as an autoimmune condition.
Frodo's life will mean something if his legacy is to warn you. If you see that rash after administering Bravecto please go immediately to your vet and demand that your dog be tested for meningitis. Don't wait for any secondary neurological symptoms to show like pacing or head pressing against a wall.
Frodo was only 2 years old. My heart is grieving terribly right now but it will heal if I know that I could help others by sharing this.
God bless."
So guys, as you can see, this drug is causing a whole lot of havoc and a lot of heartache... and has been doing that ever since its inception in 2014...
As always, I promise to NOT declare a victory unless it is a TRUE victory resulting in this drug being removed from the market globally and entirely. Merck HAS to start paying attention to the plight of thousands of suffering and dying dogs and their grieving owners.
Until next time, take care!
PS: The photo is of Frodo when he was still able to walk and be a dog…
