In sad news it has been announced that Notre Dame has decided to demolish historic Corby Hall on campus next month. Corby Hall, one of the oldest buildings on the University of Notre Dame campus, will be demolished in June and replaced with a new hall of similar design. The circa-1895 yellow brick building, once housed Legendary Coach Knute Rockne (the greatest coach in the history of College football) and his friend and teammate, Gus Dorais, lived in Corby Hall as students for three years before they graduated in 1914. Rev. William E. Corby, (who the building is named after) a former Notre Dame president, gave general absolution and a blessing to Union soldiers before the Battle of Gettysburg. A statue of Corby giving that blessing stands in front of Corby Hall.
Alumni, Friends, Faculty, Residents of South Bend, and fans of Our Lady’s school, as you can see this Hall has so much history that must be preserved. I ask that you join me in signing this petition to help save Historic Corby Hall, and have it named an Historic Landmark!
