Hello everyone, I know it’s been a long time since CB-9 ‘happened’ (I won’t say succeeded or failed, it was a bit of both!), but with the primaries coming up I thought you might want to know which candidates support sanctuary counties and legislation such as CB-9. Here’s a run through of what they did during that campaign and what they are saying now. Most of the information is from Indivisible (bottom of page), and some is from the OM debate video or their campaign sites. County Executive: Calvin Ball sponsored CB-9 last year, making him a good pick. However, more pressure might need to be put on him in the future since he recently suggested that this legislation would not be needed if he was County Exec. His likely opponent is Allan Kittleman who vetoed the bill and is still not supportive. https://votecalvinball.com/ County Council District 1: Liz Walsh supported CB9 and still supports Sanctuary legislation, and the alternative is Jon Weinstein who voted against it and made CB9 fail. Walsh’s campaign can use some help because running against an incumbent is hard! Weinstein has a reported $83,000 so help out if you can. Also click below to see her plan for Ellicott city! https://www.walshforone.com/contact.html Liz Walsh Ellicott City Plan: https://www.pr.com/press-release/755407 District 2: Opel Jones said he would support a new version of CB9. https://www.opeljones.com/ District 3: Hiruy Hadgu testified for CB9 and still supports it. https://www.hiruyhadgu.com/ Christiana Rigby sent emails and made phone calls during CB9 and still supports it. https://christianarigby.com/ Greg Jennings said he supports it in the attached video (abt 27 min in) and supported it last year. http://jenningsforhoward.com/ Steve Hunt thinks it isn't necessary (abt 24 minutes in the video) District 4: Deb Jung supports potentially passing a measure against 287-G, but said to HoCo Indivisible that she does not think CB-9 is necessary at this time. http://votedebjung.com/. Janet Siddiqui and Ian Bradley Moller-Knudsen have no immigration stance available. District 5: China Williams is the only Democrat running so she may be more likely to support sanctuary policies, but would not support CB-9. http://chinawilliams.com/ Other candidates you may see: MD Governor race: Ben Jealous is committed to state sanctuary legislation (MD TRUST Act) and is endorsed by OurRevolution, a progressive organization. https://benjealous.com/issues/immigration/ Rushern Baker is the other leading candidate but his campaign site has no plan for immigration that I can find. https://www.rushernbaker.com/ MD State Senate District 12: Clarence Lam was a guest speaker at the rally before CB9 testimony and was a cosponsor of the MD TRUST Act. http://www.clarencelam.com/ MD State Senate District 13: Guy Guzzone supported the MD TRUST Act and spoke at the HoCo Indivisible Immigration Town Hall. MD House of Delegates, District 13: Jen Terrasa sponsored CB9 last year. http://teamterrasa.com/ I apologize if anyone was missed or if anything here is incorrect. If you are a candidate who feels they were misrepresented or not mentioned, please feel free to leave a comment with your explanation. I encourage everyone to do their own research for whatever issues they care about and fact check anything I have written. Thank you all for your support!
