Hello,
The year may be coming to a close for most Howard County students, but we can't stop making it a safer place for everyone next year. That's why the Howard County student group who supported CB-9 also called for a policy to be released regarding ICE presence on school property. The statement was emailed to the board's group email, and said the following.
"We, the Howard County High School Student Group who support Sanctuary legislation (CB-9) are requesting the official Howard County School Policy in regards to ICE arrests, detention, or presence on or near school property."
Earlier this year, the BOE decided they didn't need any policy to be made. Later, they suggested they would help ICE in the quote "School system security works collaboratively with local law enforcement when/if there is a need to respond to requests by ICE to enter school property." (John White, BOE Spokesperson).
Now is the time to tell them otherwise. Please email boe@hcpss.org to tell all the members you support this statement and support strong policy to protect Howard County students and families from ICE raidsfor civil offenses and stress that ICE should need judicial warrants for any arrests. School should be a safe place for everyone, and no student should fear that by attending school they may be putting themselves or their families in danger. Thank you.
