Stop the pay gap for Women in Louisiana
This petition had 4,360 supporters
Louisiana ranked 49th in the area of employment and earnings, in part because wages for women are only two thirds of those for men. On average, women in Louisiana make $16,453 less than men. That's the widest wage gap in the country. If the wage gap were eliminated, a working woman in Louisiana would have enough money for 137 more weeks of food for her family, 14 more months of mortgage and utilities payments, 21 more months of rent or 8,189 additional gallons of gasoline.
We have waited too long. Congress, sign the Louisiana Equal Pay Act. It has been sent to legislatures twice, and has been vetoed. In order to even take confidence building measures, the government must hear from its people. Sign this petition and encourage others to do so as well.
We send this message to all Americans in civil society, to our elected officials, and to the women's rights movement. We demand that Congressional pass the Louisiana Equal Pay Act now!!!
