I am the mother of a 25 year old autistic man who also has a intellectual disability and also, due to chronic health issues, has to access the hospital frequently.
During the Covid pandemic I have read stories of parents and/or carer's of disabled adults being denied access and support to their adult child whilst in hospital. This is heartbreaking to read, and this needs to be better.
A Disability and Carer Policy needs be implemented in every Victorian hospital urgently. A Disability Liaison Officer needs to be employed at every Victorian hospital immediately.
This has been a need for years and even greater and urgent time would be while experiencing a pandemic, which we are experiencing now.
