We, the undersigned, respectfully submit this petition to Darebin Council, urging the Council to name the Intercultural Centre in honour of the late Councilor Gaetano Greco.
Councillor Greco’s unwavering commitment to public service and his lifelong advocacy for multiculturalism were instrumental in shaping the inclusive, diverse, and vibrant community we cherish today.
We request that this recognition be considered following appropriate consultation with Councillor Greco’s family and the Darebin Ethnic Communities Council (DECC), to ensure the naming is respectful and aligned with the values he championed.
Councillor Greco served with distinction on the council for 16 consecutive years as an independent representative. Throughout his tenure, he championed the voices of everyday residents and worked tirelessly to promote unity, cultural understanding, and community development. His dedication to inclusive policy-making and grassroots engagement was instrumental in fostering a municipality where diversity is not only respected but celebrated.
We believe naming the Intercultural Centre in Councillor Greco’s honour is a meaningful and appropriate tribute to his lasting impact. It would stand as a permanent reminder of the values he upheld and the inclusive vision he brought to life through years of committed service.
