Citizens for the Future of Ft. Negley Park

Friends,

On Tuesday May 21 at 10:30 AM join us at Ft. Negley Park to celebrate the designation of Ft. Negley as a UNESCO Site of Memory.

The only other sites of Memory in the US are the Statue of Liberty, Philadelphia's Independence Hall, and the University of Virginia and Monticello in Charlottesville, Va.

This designation was sought in the heat of takeover by the downtown crowd trying to turn our city's historic park into 300 apartments and 27 buildings awarded behind closed doors to "special friends" of the Mayor.

John Cooper was the single strongest force in our city pulling disparate groups together in the fight for saving this sacred space. In this fight I came to know and respect his intellect and his deep love for our city - both its past, and for our future.

When so many in elected or appointed office were quiet and "kept their heads down" - John was a lion in rooting out and exposing the corruption at the heart of what was happening at Ft. Negley (and then later at General Hospital -- to keep friends happy, or get soccer stadiums built).

John Cooper is now running for Mayor to restore order & trust to the process by which our city makes decisions and funds priorities. I urge you to remember this when we come to August 1 and to support him however you can.

Sincerely,

Alice Ganier Rolli
