The Issue

Marissa Moffis passed away July 2022. She has math credit through Kenai Central high school as she was advanced. In eighth grade she walked every day from the middle school to the high school to go attend math class, whether the school likes it or not she made an impact. If you knew her, she was the most outspoken, funniest, and kind person you would ever met. She is an amazing representation of the class of 2026. We are not asking for much, we don’t expect her to receive a diploma as she does not have 22 1/2 credits however she deserves more recognition than what the school is willing to give her.

The current plans for graduation do not reflect the recognition she truly deserves. We earnestly ask for a formal gesture, a moment, or a mention that acknowledges her unique contribution and spirit.

Graduation is a pivotal moment for students, a time when achievements are celebrated and futures anticipated. “ Graduation is for people that are here”- said to students after asking about giving her recognition during the graduation meeting. It's also a time to honor those who have profoundly touched our lives, even if they are not with us. By acknowledging Marissa in a meaningful way during the graduation ceremony, Kenai Central High School would demonstrate that they value the impact students have beyond just academic achievements.

In doing so, the school would provide comfort to her family and friends, showing that Marissa's life and contributions were cherished and will be remembered. It is an opportunity to honor her memory and let her family know that she is still a valued member of the Kenai Central community.

Please join us in urging Kenai Central High School to recognize Marissa Moffis during the graduation ceremony. Your signature can make a difference and ensure Marissa is honored in a way that reflects both her character and her academic contributions. Sign this petition to help us honor Marissa.
