Honor Bill Finger & Michael Uslan with Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Why Bill Finger and Michael Uslan Deserve Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Batman has been my hero for as long as I can remember. Like many of you, I grew up watching the Caped Crusader in various forms—on TV, in comics, and in theaters. But as I delved deeper into the history behind this iconic character, I learned a troubling truth. While Batman’s star shines brighter than ever, the men responsible for shaping his legacy, Bill Finger and Michael Uslan, remain in the shadows.
In 2024, Batman will celebrate his 85th anniversary. We’ve come a long way from his first comic appearance, but two key figures have yet to receive the recognition they truly deserve.
Let me tell you about Bill Finger.
Many people believe Bob Kane created Batman. While he was the one who originally pitched the character, Batman as we know him today—the Bat-suit, Gotham City, Batman's dark detective persona—was largely the vision of Bill Finger. Finger gave Batman his iconic look and created some of his most famous villains, from the Joker to the Penguin. Without Finger, Batman might have been just another superhero in red overalls. Instead, he became the dark, brooding protector of Gotham City.
Bill Finger passed away with little recognition for his contributions. Despite efforts in recent years, such as the documentary Batman and Bill and Marc Tyler Nobleman’s book Bill: The Boy Wonder, Finger still does not have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His work has touched generations of fans, but his legacy is incomplete without this honor.
Now, let's talk about Michael Uslan.
If you're a fan of the 1989 Batman movie, the Dark Knight Trilogy, or even The Batman (2022), you owe a huge thanks to Michael Uslan. It was Uslan who fought for over a decade to bring a darker, more serious version of Batman to the silver screen—something far removed from the campy 1966 TV show. His persistence and vision led to a cinematic revolution that redefined the superhero genre forever.
Without Uslan, Batman might still be stuck in the past, remembered only as a comic relief character. Instead, we got the dark, gritty, and complex Batman we all love today, and his influence continues to resonate in modern superhero films. Uslan’s efforts deserve to be immortalized alongside the character he helped transform.
Both Bill Finger and Michael Uslan played pivotal roles in shaping Batman into the cultural icon we know today. Their contributions go beyond the comics and movies—they helped create a lasting legacy that has inspired fans around the world. It’s time for their contributions to be officially recognized.
That’s why I’m asking for your support.
