Honest Taxpayers need to benefit for being honest

The Issue

I, like many in India, am a middle-income taxpayer. We pay our taxes diligently, funding the numerous social schemes that our government rolls out, ensuring a better future for our nation. Despite this, we fail to enjoy any long-term benefits from our contributions. Unlike the upper class and corporate entities, who receive governmental benefits for investments, our hard-earned money does not compliment us with any returns post retirement. We step into our autumn years with minimal to no financial security from the state. We demand a change.

Demographically, middle-income taxpayers form a significant percentage of the population, contributing largely to the tax revenue. Tax data from the Department of Revenue (Income Tax Department, Government of India) corroborates this point. We propose an initiative for the government: Establish a system that qualifies any middle-income taxpayer, who has been paying tax for an extended term, say over 10 years, for guaranteed retirement benefits. These benefits would add a safety net for the retirees, rewarding them for their responsible citizenship.

Additionally, such a system wouldn't just benefit individuals, but also boost the national economy. With increased social security, consumption levels are bound to rise, driving up the net GST collection, thereby increasing the government's revenue from indirect taxes. This alignment of individual and national interests makes the proposal not just fair, but economically viable as well.

It's time for the government to hear our voice and rectify this imbalance. We want our contribution to be acknowledged, our hard work to be respected. We want our retirement days to be peaceful, without the constant worry of financial instability. We implore the government to act now. Sign this petition to champion the cause of middle-income taxpayers in India. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of many. Your signature can bring a change.
