Subject: Request for action against those who harassed honest intelligence officers

Respected Sir,

We, the undersigned, are writing this letter in reference to the recent shocking revelations coming from former Under Secretary, Internal Security, Shri RVS Mani & former Home Secretary Shri GK Pillai on our national media about the state of treatment meted to them. Indian Administrative Services (IAS) is the backbone of the country's political administrative framework, one which takes the burden of expectations and performance from all squares. It is an elite force which is dream of every young citizen and pride of common man. Only people of extraordinary caliber are able to go through the most rigorous competition and training process. While IAS officers work tirelessly, all the credit of work is inevidently taken by politicians. These officers mostly remain nameless and faceless warriors. For all practical purposes, this bureaucratic force is the last line of defence between common man and the political turbulence.

There are hundreds of civil servants who are serving the nation and rendering yeomen service in implementing the welfare schemes and security measures for the billion countrymen. It is important that the system is protected from abuse  and manipulation. It appears to us that many officers were used by politicians of the previous UPA Government, towards their political ends discarding the most cursory concerns of even the nation’s security. Those who refused to be part of their cynical politics were not just castigated but hounded out and traumatised.  We also note that such politics was played with the least botheration of what effect it would have on the morale of our intelligence units and the officers who are part of it, officers who many times even take personal risk in order to get critical intelligence that helps Indian citizens against terrorist attacks, violence and sabotage.

We are simply shocked and disgusted by what we heard in the video above. The shocking ordeal, that such senior officers as Mr. Mani had to go through for doing their duties and standing by the oath they took towards our Constitution, is of grave concern to all of us. The concern is not just for the safety of these brave officers and their families, but also for the very democratic framework these officers are standing up to serve and protect the very same democratic framework, we the citizens of India are part and proud of.

Fear falls short of explaining what an ordinary citizen would feel after this. Common man would feel threatened to speak against any wrong, for if such an officer can meet this treatment, what would happen to individuals who struggle for two square meals a day.

Time has come to take action against those who are guilty.

We, the undersigned, being a responsible part of this nation urge Honorable Prime Minister of India to:

1. Order fair inquiry into the statements of former Under Secretary, Internal Security, Shri. RVS Mani and former Home Secretary Shri. GK Pillai.
2. Ensure that anyone who is found guilty is given exemplary punishment for what they have done to take down the morale of the IB and security of our nation.

Prime Minister Sir, we the citizens of India, urge you to take every possible step to punish the culprits and ensure that no political establishment in future will dare to repeat the heinous crimes against honest officers and the intelligence agencies for their petty political benefits.
