Namaste, on the pious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, many will reflect on his devotion to Lord Ram. Some will wonder about is strength. Many will have pondered the Hanuman Chaalisa. (Chaalisa: group of 40 verses). However, Hanuman is especially, the lord of the Brahmachaari. With Hinduism being a very strongly steeped in symbolism, many wonder about the Hanuman Mandir always being at a height. Some will definitely have thought that as a vaanar, it is logical he will be on a mountain. There is however, a deeper logic than simply that. As lord of Brahmachaaris, the symbolism in one having to make extra effort to reach Lord Hanuman, simply reflects the fact that maintaining Brahmacharya and succeeding in studies is not attainable by a mere click of the fingers. One needs to make sacrifices and be determined and focussed to succeed. And it is proven that those that want to succeed in their education must be able to hold the vow of celibacy. (Recent research has shown that the cognitive skills of men suffer after they have been in contact with beautiful ladies, probably because they are geared genetically to focus on attracting the ladies, rather than calculate the eigenvalues of a matrix) Another aspect of Lord Hanuman is his protection from ghosts... "Bhoot pisaach nikat nahin aavai mahaavir jab naam sunava". This is often the first step taken to protect against evil. However, it is instructive to have a look at the AtharvaVed as a source of protection from a vast array ills, demons, and other dangers. A short list below: Book 1, Hymn XVIII: A charm to avert evil spirits of misfortune and to secure prosperity Book 1,Hymn XVI: A prayer and charm against demons Book2,Hymn VI: A prayer to Agni for protection Book 2,Hymn VII: A counter-charm against imprecation and malignity Book2,Hymn XIV: A charm to banish vermin and noxious creatures Book2,Hymn XVIII: A charm against goblins, and other evil creatures Book5,Hymn XIV: A charm against witchcraft As can be seen, Sanskrit texts hold an abundance of prayers and incantations to protect us from every ill known to man, (including prayers to restore health of a dangerously sick man). While all the knowledge is right there waiting, it is for us to make the step and learn the Sanskrit Language to be able to make best use of it. So as usual friends, I will request you to keep sharing and posting on your social media sites, Facebook, Twitter, Badoo, Hi5, Orkut, Myspace, Snapchat, Instagram, Email, SMS. https://www.change.org/p/hon-minister-of-education-mrs-leela-devi-dookun-luchoomun-introduce-sanskrit-in-all-mauritian-schools To bolster our reach (towards those that may not be technologically savvy), we will also be launching printed copies to be signed by the traditional methods. You are welcome to print copies of the petition and have them signed, then get into contact with us to collect all the signed copies. It is an encouraging moment for us to note that we have now reached 866 signatures at the time of writing and will soon achieve the milestone of 1000... but only with your support. So, as usual, please keep sharing. Namaste, Arvind Chandra Sen Bhagan
