Introduction:
Hare coursing is a form of blood sport which is highly controversial worldwide but is still legal in the Republic of Ireland.  The speed and agility of greyhounds are compared to hares causing them to be mauled, injured and sometimes killed whilst being chased.

Over 4,500 wild hares are captured every year by the Coursing Clubs during the netting process.  This is when traumatised hares are herded into nets by gangs of yelling people and later put into boxes and transported to the clubs where they are held captive for as long as 141 days.

Life of Hares:

It's no wonder that life of hares under these brutal coursing clubs is miserable.  The first stage after getting them in the club is to train them which in itself is cruel for wild animals.  Hares are autonomous creatures, and keeping them in a herd in captivity adds stress making them easily prone to diseases which can spread rapidly in an enclosure.

 Risks:

There are multiple risks with this blood sport, not only for hares but for the community too.  Betting is a major element of hare coursing, fuelling people’s interest in the continuation of this blood sport but also causing criminal activity amongst problem gamblers, creating devastating impacts for their loved ones.

Hare coursing encourages local people, the admirers of this game, to illegally hunt hares in the wild with their dogs.  Often hunting in rural areas goes unmonitored which results in killing of many hares, stripping them out of the wild for fun.

Call of Action:

Please help me save thousands of hares which are subjected to a poor life with these coursing clubs. Sign and Share this petition. Every signature will pressurise the Government and the regulatory bodies to completely ban this cruel Hare Coursing Sport.
