Petition updateExtend Cooler School ZonesI challenge Ms Jones to spend a hot summer's day in a classroom demountable

Teachers and students know how hot it gets summer and how cold it gets in winter inside a demountable classroom. Unbearable.
However, in January this year Ms Jones said the temporary buildings are “of a quality that matches the internal standards of conventional permanent facilities, in terms of comfort and classroom functionality”. (The Courier Mail, Jan 2017)
The article also stated that 'many schools outside those zones were electing to install cooling devices using funds from P & Cs or the school’s annual minor works allocation' obviously, if they could afford it. The fact is, many school communities can't so are left to suffer climatic discomfort year after year.
The biggest effect of our environment's temperature on learning ability aside from general attitude, is on our memory and cognitive abilities. A recent study at A high school in Oregon, USA demonstrated this perfectly. The study placed students in different rooms set at varying temperatures. Students were given exams, and their scores were compared against the temperature of the room. The results confirmed that 22.22 degrees Celsius was optimum for the students:
At 16.11 degrees Celsius, students averaged a score of 76%
At 27.22 degrees Celsius students averaged a score of 72%
At 22.22 degrees Celsius students achieved an average score of 90%
I'm wondering if it has ever occurred to Ms Jones that we could be 'The Smart State' again if students and their teachers in the most densely populated part of the state were able to work in a climate controlled, low humidity environment? It's not rocket science, is it?
Many of us are wondering no doubt, what it's going to take to make the Qld Gov change their mind on this issue. It would be interesting to see data on the number of children that are sent home sick this summer due to heat related ailments and stress in SEQ, how many children had to seek refuge outside their usual learning environment thus missing out on valuable learning and how many teachers had to have down time due to their environmental working conditions.
I'm sure that circumstances would change if Ms Jones was to experience our reality first hand.
No longer is it a matter of IF it should be a matter of WHEN and we all hope it happens soon. We need air conditioners for the well being and sanity of the whole school community.
