Reverse retrospective implementation of STPs & 300% water tariff hike targeting apartments

It is with extreme anguish that we are writing to you as residents of apartments in Bengaluru, who are now being continuously harassed & unfairly treated by the civic agencies, especially BWSSB. We were saddled with a more than 300% hike in water tariff 3 years back, calling us as bulk consumers, when we are no different from individual home owners. This caused a huge burden for people living in apartment complexes, especially pensioners, widows & senior citizens.
And now, BWSSB has started imposing penalties on apartments in Bengaluru mandating them to implement STP & dual piping system with retrospective effect, without understanding either the technical aspects or the practical aspects. Implementing STP & dual piping system with retrospective effect, apart from creating a huge cost burden together with the practical issue of space constraints, can also pose serious safety issues as well as environmental hazards. Various technical experts have opined on the infeasibility & impracticability together with the potential safety & environmental issues due to this move by BWSSB.
People living in apartments are law-abiding citizens, paying their various dues like Property Tax, Solid Waste Management Cess, Water Charges, Sanitary Charges, Electricity Bills etc. to the Government. Despite this, apartment residents are not being provided with proper amenities. Instead, they have to fend for themselves and are being forced to incur significant additional capital expenditure, outrageously high tariffs compared to individual home owners, penalties & fines at short notice despite complying with rules & regulations etc.
There is a huge level of simmering discontent among lakhs of apartment owners & residents across Bengaluru, against this continuous discrimination & unfair treatment being meted out to innocent citizens. We request you to intervene & direct BWSSB to reverse these extremely unfair, unreasonable & impractical rules targeting apartment residents in a discriminatory manner.
We would be very happy to engage in a constructive dialogue with the Government & civic bodies to work out solutions to the problems facing us and the city. We are committed to working together with the Government & civic bodies to make Bengaluru a world class city!
