Petition updateHome Office: Give Albert Thompson the right to cancer careActions for you: Let’s get Theresa May to listen

So, Amelia Gentleman at the Guardian told us today that Theresa May has refused to intervene in Albert’s case, saying it is up to Royal Marsden (full article link below).
She also says “No urgent treatment should ever be withheld or delayed by the NHS regardless of ability of willingness to pay,” in a letter to Jeremy Corbyn, who raised the issue at prime minister’s questions last week.
This seems contradictory, no?
We need Theresa May to intervene, because Royal Marsden are still twiddling their thumbs, seemingly offended they are under scrutiny.
Suggested actions:
- Tweet at Theresa May, Royal Marsden and the Conservative Party using #actionforalbert and #albertthompson. Suggestions below, or go to my twitter profile @quiline and retweet from there.
.@theresa_may Cancer doesn’t wait - give Albert Thompson the treatment he has a right to now. 90,000 signatures and rising #actionforalbert https://www.change.org/p/home-office-give-albert-thompson-the-lifesaving-cancer-treatment-he-needs
.@royalmarsdennhs Cancer doesn’t wait - give Albert Thomson the treatment he needs #actionforalbert https://www.change.org/p/home-office-give-albert-thompson-the-lifesaving-cancer-treatment-he-needs
- If you are in the Maidenhead constituency, email Theresa’s office mayt@parliament.uk using the email title ‘Action for Albert Thompson’. (I'm trying to find out how else we reach her directly - any ideas, please let me know?). Otherwise, you will have to go through the No 10 form, which is unfortunately quite fiddly: https://email.number10.gov.uk/
Suggested words for the email:
Dear Theresa,
I note with deep concern your refusal to intervene in the case of Albert Thompson, who has the right to prostate cancer treatment and is being refused on unfair grounds. Many oncologists are questioning the decision that this has now been deemed non-urgent and are insisting he needs treatment now.
Albert has been in the UK for over 40 years. Many are the same situation, and unable to prove consistent residency. They didn’t know they would ever need to.
Cancer is a terrifying and lonely journey, no matter what your economic or racial status.
Being subjected to this dehumanising process when he is very ill is likely having a negative impact on his physical and mental health. He needs treatment right away.
Our country has been built partially by the efforts of Commonwealth citizens; we owe Albert, and others like him, the right to be treated with dignity and compassion.
We demand you do what is right and get Albert the treatment he needs. Now.
Regards,
(Your name)
