The petition really took off, thank you all for your support. While we just crossed 45000 signatures it is time for an update on what is happening and the various interviews that were released. A note from Ahmed: "The Solicitor submitted a fresh asylum claim that might be the main cause for getting me out of detention temporarily. The University of Sheffield received a letter from the solicitor about my application status, the letter allowed University to reactivated my account on 3.1.2018. After reporting to the home office in Croydon, London. The Home Office transferred me to their reporting centre in Sheffield, and to report to them on a monthly basis. The process for the fresh claim might give me some time to try and work on the legal papers and on the PhD I'm still subject to detention and deportation at any time and it's up to the Home Office and the Judge to approve my application and let me continue my studies or deport me. I would like to thank you for the overwhelming support that is helping me through the constant struggle with a brain paralysing stress caused by the uncertainty of the situation. Thank you for guiding me through this dark tunnel. With Love Ahmed" Interviews: Sheffield Live: http://web.sheffieldlive.org/phd-student-speaks-of-detention-centre-experience/ RT UK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhcapl6k0fI ITV News: http://www.itv.com/news/calendar/2017-12-30/sheffield-student-facing-deportation-says-hes-humbled-by-supporters/ Other articles: Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/please-help-me-convince-the-home-office-that-my-friend-is-an-asset-to-this-country-and-not-a-threat_uk_5a47b1e3e4b0b0e5a7a6cddc Independent: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/university-of-sheffield-colluding-home-office-a8138571.html The Star: https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/sheffield-student-who-fled-isis-could-be-deported-1-8924572 Sheffield Telegraph: https://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/news/sheffield-student-who-fled-isis-could-be-deported-1-8924572
