I hope you had a great weekend!

Today I wanted to update you about my petition delivery to Holtec, as well as let you know about an upcoming walk for peace and justice, that's happening this Saturday April 15th.

Two weeks ago on March 27th I attended a meeting of the Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel at Town Hall in Plymouth. We had a terrific turnout and the room was packed with people.

Towards the end of the meeting I had an opportunity to say a few words to those in attendance. Most importantly, I was able to deliver the petition to two representatives from Holtec. You can view the delivery by watching this video, courtesy of Public Access Community Television.

Since the start, the goal of the petition was to ask Holtec CEO Krishna P. Singh to please retract his plan to dump before the March 27th meeting. Despite thousands of signatures, the petition went unanswered, and I did not hear from CEO Krishna.

Holtec is still pursuing the dumping via a NPDES permit from the EPA, but I am hopeful the state will step up and prevent this from occurring.

Nevertheless, I am happy to have started this petition, and I can’t begin to express how much I appreciate having your support. I felt I needed to do something, so I decided to stand up and speak out - and so did you by signing.

Over the past 10 weeks managing this petition has been challenging for me, and other aspects of my life have taken a back seat while I’ve poured a lot of my attention and focus into this issue. Right now with my busiest time of the year looming on the horizon, I need to take a step back, but I will continue to monitor this issue from a distance.

Moving forward, there is an incredible team of people at Save Our Bay who will be keeping a close eye on the decommissioning. For the latest developments, please keep tabs on their website saveourbayma.com. I am extremely grateful for the steadfast persistence and effort which these people, along with many other groups and individuals, continue to devote to this cause.

Over the coming months I will on occasion send you updates about new developments, and ways you can get involved.

For example, this Saturday April 15th from noon to 3pm, the team at Save Our Bay is planning a walk for peace and justice with the Buddhist monks from the Leverret Peace Pagoda.

Together they will be walking from the Plymouth Town Hall Green (26 Court St.) to the entrance of the Pilgrim nuclear power plant (600 Rocky Hill Road). Shuttles will pick people up along the route and transport them back to Plymouth Town Hall.

You can RSVP to attend the walk by clicking here.

In closing, I’d like to again mention how on the Holtec website it is stated that Holtec is, and I quote, “a learning organization, forever striving for a higher standard of excellence.”

CEO Krishna, if you happen to be reading this, then I personally feel that right now is a wonderful opportunity for you to demonstrate this “higher standard of excellence” by acquiescing to the collective wishes of our community, and agreeing to no longer consider dumping this water into our beloved Cape Cod Bay.

Thanks again for your support in this matter. I appreciate you reading this update, and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

Best regards,

Ryan Collins
