This morning our petition asking Holtec to please not dump radioactive water into Cape Cod Bay surpassed 10,000 signatures. This is AMAZING! The best part is we have each other to thank for our success so far. You have all done incredible work by sharing our petition with your friends, family, and other citizens of our communities. Let's keep the momentum going, and continue sharing and talking about this issue over the weekend.

The power of the petition is that Holtec executives receive email notifications from Change.org whenever we hit a big milestone, such as today’s 10K milestone. I am sure they are well aware of what we are up to.

In addition, having 10K+ signatures is going to catch the attention of Governor Healey, the attorney general, and other people in power. The petition clearly communicates that this is an issue our communities care deeply about. The Governor has already publicly opposed the dumping idea - our petition is going to show her that the public has her back. Seeing all these signatures and reading the comments people leave on the petition, will no doubt motivate the Governor and her staff to stay up late and figure out a legal way to stop Holtec.

Since I chose to speak up about this issue, I have been attending weekly meetings with the people from Save Our Bay and members of the Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel (NDCAP). I have spoken on the phone with Plymouth senator Matt Muratore, and I am in constant email communication with people who have been involved with this issue for years.

Right now it seems the most logical alternative to dumping the water into Cape Cod Bay would be to truck the 1.1 million gallons of wastewater to the train station in Middleboro, MA. From there it would go to a facility in Texas which is accepting nuclear waste daily. This is what NorthStar (competitor of Holtec) did when they decommissioned the Yankee nuclear plant in Vermont.

Once again thank you all for your support. You are all doing amazing work! Like so many of you I view Cape Cod Bay as a second home, and it makes me happy to know so many others also care deeply for the bay.

Let's keep it up!

Ryan
