Bonjour, 

Comme vous le savez, nous vivons une époque dans laquelle on ressuscite toutes les vieilles franchises pour les relancer de manière plus ou moins heureuse (selon les cas que l'on prend mais nous n'entrerons pas dans ces débats ici). Cependant, au milieu de cette vague, il pourrait être aussi intéressant d'en profiter pour donner une seconde chance à des films qui, pour diverses raisons, n'ont pas été ce qu'ils auraient pu être. 

Un exemple qui me tient à cœur est celui du film "The Son of Kong", réalisé par Ernest B. Shoedsack et sorti sur les écrans en 1933. Le film est la suite du mythique film "King Kong" du même réalisateur et qui était sorti à peine quelques mois plus tôt. Triomphe cinématographique, la RKO ne pouvait pas manquer de capitaliser le plus possible sur l'aura de cette œuvre et c'est ainsi que la suite fut mise en route très rapidement mais avec un budget moitié moins important, d'où notamment des limitations techniques et un grand manque d'ambition. Le résultat fut une œuvre qui demeure certes sympathique mais qui n'arrive pas à la cheville de son illustre prédécesseur (pourtant sorti à peine quelques mois auparavant !) et ne reste malheureusement dans la mémoire des cinéphiles que comme un exemple parmi tant d'autres de suites purement commerciales créées pour surfer sur le succès retentissant d'un premier opus. 

A titre personnel, mon plus grand choc dans une salle de cinéma fut en décembre 2005 (j'avais alors 12 ans) le remake de "King Kong" réalisé par Peter Jackson. Quand on voit la passion manifeste avec laquelle ce film fut fait et le résultat final par rapport au film original, je pense qu'il pourrait être très intéressant que l'on revienne le cas de "The Son of Kong" pour en faire une œuvre digne de "King Kong", pour que le fils ait l'opportunité de s'élever à la hauteur du père. Avec l'univers de "King Kong" (Skull Island, les dinosaures, les monstres, les indigènes, etc), une bonne direction artistique et les moyens techniques qui sont ceux d'aujourd'hui dans le petit monde des blockbusters, je pense sincèrement qu'il y a largement de quoi faire du pauvre "The Son of Kong" une bonne histoire qui compléterait bien celle que l'on connait tous du chef d'œuvre de Merian C. Cooper et Ernest B. Shoedsack. 

Dans un monde idéal, on rêverait que Peter Jackson le fasse (il avait fait la blague) mais nous ne saurions être ambitieux à ce point. 

Et évidemment, pour que ça ait du sens, il faudrait que ce soit une œuvre totalement distincte du Monsterverse.

En espérant que vous serez sensible au sort d'un pauvre gorille géant au pelage blanc, merci de l'attention que vous porterez à cette pétition.

As you know, we live in an era in all the old franchises are revived to revive them in a more or less happy way (depending on the case we take but we will not enter in these debates here). However, in the midst of this wave, it might be interesting to take the opportunity to give a second chance to films that, for various reasons, were not what they could have been.

An example that is close to my heart is the film "The Son of Kong", directed by Ernest B. Shoedsack and released on the screens in 1933. The film is the sequel to the legendary film "King Kong" by the same director and was released just a few months earlier. Cinema triumph, the RKO could not fail to capitalize as much as possible on the aura of this work from the start mythical and thus the suite was started very quickly but with a half less important budget, hence including technical limitations and a lack of ambition. The result was a work that certainly remains sympathetic but does not reach the ankle of its illustrious predecessor (yet released just a few months ago!) And unfortunately remains in the memory of moviegoers as one example among many others purely commercial suites created to ride the resounding success of a first opus.

Personally, my biggest shock in a movie theater was in December 2005 (I was then 12 years old) the remake of "King Kong" directed by Peter Jackson. When we see the obvious passion with which this film was made and the final result compared to the original film, I think it could be very interesting that we return the case of "The Son of Kong" to make it a work worthy of "King Kong", so that the son has the opportunity to rise to the height of the father. With the world of "King Kong" (Skull Island, dinosaurs, monsters, natives, etc.), a good artistic direction and the technical means that are those of today in the small world of blockbusters, I think Sincerely, there is plenty to do for the poor "The Son of Kong" a good story that would complement the one we all know from the masterpiece of Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Shoedsack.

In an ideal world, we would dream that Peter Jackson would do it (he had made the joke), but we could not be that ambitious.

And obviously, for that to make sense, it would have to be a work completely separate from the Monsterverse.
