Hold UPL Accountable for Retaliation, Harassment, and Ethical Violations in Agriculture

The Issue

Summary: We, the undersigned, demand accountability from United Phosphorus Limited (UPL), UPL NA Inc., and its leadership for a pattern of harassment, workplace retaliation, and silencing of whistleblowers. These actions not only endanger the safety and mental health of former and current employees, but also compromise ethical standards in global agriculture.

 
Why This Matters:

In 2023, Matt Lewis, a former Strategic Account Manager for UPL NA Inc., was terminated during a reduction in force. Since then, he has raised serious ethical concerns about internal misconduct, corporate retaliation, and the use of intimidation tactics to silence dissent. Instead of addressing these issues transparently, UPL has responded with a court action that attempts to mischaracterize public whistleblowing as "harassment."

This is not just a personal dispute—it’s a coordinated legal strategy to intimidate a former employee and conceal deeper problems.

UPL's actions include:

Abusing legal protections (restraining orders) to stifle free speech
Weaponizing past employment agreements to silence critics
Allegedly targeting a whistleblower's family and professional reputation
Failing to address internal corruption, gender bias, and retaliatory HR practices
Filing a restraining order that restricts contact with former colleagues—many of whom support the whistleblower
 
Our Demands:

Immediate dismissal of the Harassment Restraining Order filed against Matt Lewis
Independent third-party investigation into HR practices, retaliation claims, and ethical compliance at UPL NA Inc.
Legal and financial protection for any employees or former employees who wish to come forward with similar experiences
An end to the use of NDAs and non-disparagement clauses to suppress whistleblowing
Full transparency around UPL’s use of AI-altered images and its online surveillance practices
