I have recently sent letters to both the Springfield Civil Rights Committee and the Planning & Economic Development Committee, addressing significant concerns related to housing instability, tenant rights, and community development in Springfield.

Letter to the Civil Rights Committee:
In my letter to the Civil Rights Committee, I highlighted violations of my civil rights, including discrimination and retaliation by the Springfield Housing Authority (SHA), particularly regarding my disability. Despite multiple requests for accommodations under the Fair Housing Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), SHA has failed to provide necessary support, creating an unsafe and hostile living environment. I also raised concerns about threats and violence I’ve faced, the lack of action from SHA, and the failure of the judicial system to protect my rights. I urged the Committee to investigate these violations and consider organizing a hearing to address them.

Letter to the Planning & Economic Development Committee:
I also sent a letter to the Planning & Economic Development Committee, focusing on the intersection of housing instability and neighborhood development. I addressed how SHA’s failure to provide reasonable accommodations, along with ongoing safety concerns, has contributed to a destabilized housing market and hindered local development efforts. As a tenant with epilepsy, I emphasized how these conditions have worsened my health and impacted the broader community. I called on the Committee to consider these issues during their upcoming Public Hearing and Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development, urging them to prioritize housing stability and tenant rights as part of Springfield's economic revitalization.

Both letters stress the importance of ensuring tenant protections, safe housing, and the link between housing stability and long-term community development. I am committed to continuing this advocacy and look forward to participating in these discussions to bring about positive change for Springfield’s future.
