Hold slanderers of the Dominican Republic accountable

The Issue

For years, the Dominican Republic and its people have been subjected to relentless misinformation and prejudice. As a proud Dominican, the baseless accusations leveled against my country have deeply affected me, as they foster unwarranted hate among various communities. Many groups unjustly label Dominicans as harboring hatred against Haitians, a claim that is not rooted in the reality experienced by most people in the Dominican Republic.

This misconception stems largely from biased media narratives and malicious campaigns designed to tarnish the reputation of the Dominican nation on the international stage. These slanderous actions not only damage our image but also exacerbate racial tensions and divide communities that could otherwise coexist peacefully.

According to reports, over the past decade, there has been a worrying increase in false allegations and derogatory statements made against Dominicans online and offline. These unwarranted claims often rely on isolated incidents, which are then taken out of context to create a spurious narrative of systematic discrimination against Haitians by Dominicans.

The harm caused by these false narratives extends beyond national borders, fueling a cycle of xenophobia and misunderstanding. As a result, Dominican people worldwide find themselves the target of undue prejudice and discrimination.

We call upon international legal bodies, including the International Court of Justice, to recognize and address the detrimental impact of this defamation on the Dominican Republic and its inhabitants. By holding the perpetrators of this misinformation campaign accountable, we can hope to restore the dignity and rightful standing of the Dominican people in the global community.

Furthermore, we urge governments, international organizations, and media outlets to promote balanced and fair reporting on Dominican issues. To make this a reality, we propose the establishment of an international committee tasked with monitoring and correcting harmful and inaccurate media portrayals of the Dominican Republic.

Let's take a stand against prejudice and misinformation. Sign this petition to support the Dominican Republic and its people in their fight for justice and truth.
