The Issue

My cousin Bonnie was already dying when she was admitted to Rosewood Nursing Home in Independence, Missouri, but she was still aware of her surroundings and in control of her faculties. Bonnie, despite her terminal diagnosis, deserved dignity and respect in her final days. This was cruelly taken away from her.

Last Monday, I witnessed a black nurse named Josh administering what seemed to be an increased dosage of her medication without proper justification. By Thursday night, Bonnie was incapacitated. She could no longer move or respond, a drastic decline in her condition in just a few days. Her health deteriorated so quickly, we were stunned.

It's not just the overmedication. I saw food left to rot, not only my cousin and my aunt, both on separate days, walked in and she was just laying there completely unaware of anything so drugged up but naked In her bed. unattended to, depriving residents of basic necessities. This neglect is inhumane. Families, already struggling emotionally and financially, are easy targets for these neglectful practices. My family did not have the resources for an autopsy to challenge Bonnie’s untimely death. It feels as though Rosewood preys on low-income families, knowing they can escape accountability.

Every resident deserves proper care, regardless of their financial situation. Nursing homes must be held accountable for the treatment and care of their patients. This should never happen to another family.

This petition calls for a thorough investigation by Missouri state authorities into Rosewood Nursing Home's practices, particularly concerning medication administration and neglectful care. We demand that all staff found negligent face appropriate consequences. Policies must be put in place to prevent such horrifying instances. Families should have a safe, supportive place to turn for information and help.

Please, sign this petition to demand justice for Bonnie and ensure dignity and proper care for all nursing home residents. Our loved ones deserve better. With your support, we can ensure that nursing homes are safe environments where dignity and respect are the norm, not the exception.
